Midweek Reads // 3

midweek reads 3

It’s the last week of classes, which means that instead of studying.. I’m perusing my saved links and fooling around on the Internet!

A few things that have been on my radar this week:

Did y’all know that Justin Bieber is a patron of opera? YOU DO NOW. An event that Justin attended raised $25,000 for Toronto-based period opera company Opera Atelier. Thanks, Biebs!

Food for thought: how Americans pretend to love ‘ethnic food.’

But behind our public enthusiasm for Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, Ethiopian, Korean, and the many other foreign cuisines that can be enjoyed in cities like New York, there is also private, and yet pronounced, form of bias, a subtle hypocrisy that suggests we think these foods are inferior.

I don’t have any #dirtclods2016, but I’m still devouring gardening blogs… and dreaming of the garden chores I’d be doing if I did. Sigh.

As soon as finals are over, I’m making wine slushies.

One of my favorite Twitter users is @netw3rk. In addition to being just a really funny dude, @netw3rk also happens to be a very good writer. He also knows a lot about Game of Thrones and writes a column called “Ask the Maester” where lowly plebeians like you and me can write and ask our dumb questions re: everything in the Seven Kingdoms. “Ask the Maester” is pretty much required weekly reading following GOT airing. (NOTE: SPOILERS AHEAD. Don’t be a dinkus and click the link if you’re not ready!) This week? No different. Check it out here.
